Authorities mentioned they were contacted by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then located numerous other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.

A high-ranking official stated the attack made him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
