Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

However, the southern French side struck two times late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
