The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Whenever a major honors show approaches, one notices a demand to include additional classifications to recognize unsung work and fill the spirits of fans with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. So would tabletop games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications effectively encompass numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything in 2014
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked in 2021
  • Only a few brain-teasers scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these represent titles that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge game development, developing some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Just like cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay decades.
